Project Proposal
By May 21st I plan to
have completed my independent project, for this project I plan to create a
surreal environment through photo manipulation using Adobe Photo Shop. The
photos that I plan to use in this project will all be taken by me. The main
idea behind the project is to take a picture of someone (me) smashing a racket
on the ground of a tennis court, and make the ground look as if it is rippling
and cracking underneath. Then I will add other aspects to set the mood of the
piece. The motivation behind this piece is professional tennis players who are constantly
getting in trouble for smashing their rackets on the court. I thought the main
challenge was going to be manipulating the court to make it look as if it is
waving, but with our current weather in Casper the challenge might be having nice
enough weather to go out and take the pictures.

Art Analysis/ The History of the Klongitians
a. Describe: Tell exactly what you see
b. Interpret: Consider the following
• What is the artist trying to say?
• What in the artist's surrounding could have influenced this
work?
• What type of emotion does the artwork evoke?
• Why was the work of art created in this particular style?
c. What is the significance and function of the work?
d. How does this artwork contribute to your community and
contemporary society?
e. What other cultures and societies have dealt with similar ideas
and how?
f. How does this piece reflect and differ from what you are going
to do?
a.
At first glance this image appears to be a railroad track that
goes off into the fog and eventually drops out of the scene.
b.
The artist is trying to convey a message of how sometimes life can
be going along smoothly like a railroad track and suddenly drop off and have
great ups and downs. Maybe the artist’s life could have influenced this work.
To me the work seems to evoke calming and peaceful emotions. The work was
created in black and white, and I feel it greatly adds to the mood.
c.
The work is used to create feelings of loneliness and sadness,
while also creating a calming feeling.
d.
The artwork contributes to my community and contemporary society
by creating a surreal environment in which he uses layering and objects to
convey his message.
e.
Well in southeastern Ethiopia there is a small Scandinavian tribe
known as the Klongitians. During their free time this semi aggressive tribe
enjoys making sculptures and paintings of bridges going off into the distance.
However painting is not their only medium, they also enjoy being very talented
basket weavers, they spend most of their days under the Mediterranean sea
weaving these empty baskets. Although in the past 200 years there has been an
extreme shortage of food causing the baskets of the Klongitians to go empty and
their bellies to become… bloated. This hunger is the main cause for their passion
of sculpting bridges, which they can later jump off when their huger becomes
excruciatingly annoying. When aggravated, these people will remain passive, but
when left alone they become aggressive. In recent years some of these tribe
members have migrated to America in search of food, a small tribe of them now
resides in the NCHS art room: Klongitian civilians include, Anthony Elmore,
Isaac Kalinowski, and Tessa McCardell.
f.
This piece uses layering and Photoshop to create a surreal environment,
and I plan on doing the same thing but with a different subject.
